With a sound that I describe as Ethereal – Melodic and Haunting, the music of Sophya is like a fine wine – something to indulge in and savour. I’d even go as far to describe tracks like ‘Restless Nights’ & ‘Blossom’ as “Grimm Lullaby’s” but then they can hit you with something almost disturbing in nature with a track like ‘Art’ which for me has a Siouxsie and the Banshees undertone and the names of labels like Beggars Banquet come to mind, and bands like the Cocteau Twins and Xymox aren't far from my thoughts but yet with a destinctive Sophya sound.
SOPHYA released their critically & highly acclaimed debut album in 2002 - "THE AGE OF SOPHYA"(released by Pandaimoium in EU and Metropolis in the U.S.) and reactions of both press and audience were amazing. Performing at that time mainly to festival crowds across Europe and recording various compilation releases, they had a change in line-up and were joined by bass player Mario Usai (The Haze) to record their second album "DREAM" which was released in April 2003.

In 2004, SOPHYA performed in the U.K and supported the famous Dutch band 'The Gathering', while being busy working on their next release. The band went back on stage in 2005 and also released their first video for the track 'More' which is currently featured on this page.
The video for 'More' gained popularity very quick after a premiere on the Dutch 'VPRO' music channel & then on MTV Holland they reached number 2 in viewers votes!
The band toured constantly across Holland and Europe in the years 2007-09, recorded and remixed exclusive tracks for compilations in South America and France whilst working on music being used for modern dance performances and a subsequent film featuring the bands story planned for release and special screenings.
During 2010-11 Sophya began work on the tracks for their next release and were joined on stage with new guitar player Nitzan Rimon, Drummer Assi Weitz, Bass players Mario Usai & Avichai Kadosh, (having the new line up live debut as support for 'The Chameleons Vox') taking the band to a new phase for the coming decade.
2012 Sophya is set to have 2 releases. The first release 'Words & Sounds' (I have my copy) is a compilation of 14 tracks which includes the new single 'Desire' from the upcoming new studio album. 'Words & Sounds' is their first on vinyl available through 'Out Of Print' records. ‘Desire’ and many other tracks are currently playing in the Indie Show main stream and Sophya are also featured in the Indie Show podcasts.
Later in 2012 Sophya will release their first full length studio album since 'Third Wish', at this stage the project is simply titled 'Pop - Art' and I’ll be keeping you up to date on progress as I get it. Hopefully we can get Idan & Sonja on line for an interview and let them tell you all about it and keep you up to date on Sohpya works.
Sophya are:
Idan Karutchi - Sonja Rozenblum
Nitzan Rimon - Assi Weitz - Mario Usai - Avichai Kadosh
